There aren't too many creams that might join this one at 19% ABV. In fact, the only other 19% beverage I see in my records is that Viking Blod mead. I remember sipping that mead, and it kind of set the stage for what a mead is supposed to be. In retrospect, I probably gave it a lower rating than it deserved. Will this get a better one that it deserves? I certainly hope not.
The cream is... cream. Once again, it is the color of chocolate milk that probably doesn't have enough chocolate added to it. I expected to smell quite a bit of alcohol, based on that higher-than-average ABV, and I certainly do. In fact, it's probably more than I expected. I guess there's a reason most of the others come somewhere around 17.0% ABV. From there, it appears to get a lot less creamy and a lot more boozy.First sip definitely has more bite than most, but it's not nuts. The cream isn't as... robust as I'm used to, so it almost starts to get watery at one point. It's still doing its job adding sweetness and dampening the alcohol, but it's not doing as much as others. If you want a cream that isn't as sweet as a Baileys or the like, this might be the ticket. It also seems like it wouldn't interfere with competing ingredients as much, so it'll work for mixed drinks, I should imagine.
As the sipping continues, the beverage seems like it is just the background actor of creams. It isn't really distinctive enough to pick out of a lineup, and it isn't offensive enough to complain about. As a result, I can't say this is a hard recommend or a big ol' nope. Instead, I can say I had it, and I will likely never have it again, as there are way better examples out there.
Bottom Line: Sometimes average is below average.
