The idea of expanding this blog into things that aren't beer is not a new one to me. I sampled quite a few moonshines, had just about my fill of apple cider, and have even had some hard sodas. I tend to shy away from heavier liquors, and I don't think this necessarily qualifies as a particularly heavy liquor. Nevertheless, this is definitely a departure from my norm. But, I have not had this famous Irish liqueur before this bottle.
The beverages a milky light tan, and let understand that that is normal for this beverage. I wasn't sure whether the put ice in the glass are not, as I had already chilled the bottle, but I went ahead and did it to make the picture look a little better. The aroma is sweet, a little chocolatey, I think I smell some maraschino cherries.
First sip is particularly good. I'm not sure what I had expected, but this is better than that. It definitely has vanilla, chocolate, cream, and a little bit of that cherry taste is left in the mouth after the drink goes away. It is exceptionally smooth and quite predictably creamy. I could see sipping on this for the rest of the night, but let's see if I can gulp at all with this tiny little glass.
Tip-in is sweet cream, light chocolate, some almond, and maybe vanilla. The middle sloshes down with a chocolate milk smoothness, but a tug at the back of the throat by the alcohol indicates that this is really 17% ABV, so watch yourself. The finish is the surge of chocolate creamy sweetness followed by the echo of cherries.
Bottom Line: Did like. Would like again.
