I did not like Tito's, and I fully expect not to like this. Hell, I have never had a White Claw soda thingy, and yet I still make them the butt of jokes to this day. And then, I saw this, and it occurred to me that I had not previously known what kind of alcohol was even in a White Claw. Well, I suppose this probably answers it. I wonder if the underlying vodka is to blame for the reputation this company has.
Just like Tito's before it, this is pretty much a clear beverage with no significant characteristics beyond leaving weepers that water doesn't do. The aroma is significantly more gentle than Tito's, though. It takes a good, hard sniff to get anything to work with, and it actually smells more like the saké I remember not liking. It has that same strained-through-a-used-gym-sock smell to it.First sip is nowhere near as off-putting as Tito's, but it's not good. It's like a moonshine with less sting and nail polish remover. I say less, but it's not all gone, and the remaining taste is more watery than anything. I guess it makes sense that you might combine this watery alcohol with something else to try to make a good beverage that has the desired ABV to it.
Subsequent sips leave me solidly in the world of "why would I bother with this?" It has a banana flavor to it that I cannot deny, but that's really the only good thing about it. I can think of many a cream and even a few moonshines I would grab way before this. Admittedly, this is probably best as a mixer, but that doesn't say much about the flavor of this beverage alone.
Bottom Line: If you cover its taste entirely, and it might not taste bad.
