White Claw "Black Cherry" Vodka

So, I think they're starting this off right. This one weighs in at only 30% ABV, and the last one was 40% ABV. That 10% decrease, combined with a flavoring, is exactly the kind of thing that distilleries have been doing with moonshine for the past few years. They've been doing it to great effect, and white claw is known for adding flavor to vodka soda in order to make people love it.

Once again, vodka is clear. It's thicker than water, but, sitting in a glass, I think pretty much anyone would be hard-pressed to tell the difference. You really have to slosh it around in order to get some idea of the viscosity of the beverage. The aroma, however, is significantly different than the straight vodka. There used to be a black cherry soda that was clear and came in glass bottles when I was a kid. I used to love that soda. This smells almost exactly like that soda. I'm looking forward to this more than I ever thought I would.

This does not taste like my black cherry soda. This has the burning of heavy alcohol, despite its 10% decrease from its sibling, and the black cherry isn't really doing anything to hide or augment that flavor. Instead, it's a troubling artificial add-on that doesn't taste as good as it smells, and the whole beverage seems like just a waste.

Bottom Line: Turns out, adding flavor wasn't the trick.
