After the blackberry lemonade that I had from Ole Smoky, I was looking forward to both the Apple Pie Ginger and Mountain 'Rita beverages. Well, the Mountain 'Rita turned out to have been mislabeled at the distillery, and the liquid inside the can was the blackberry lemonade. It was good, but I wanted to do a review. I don't know what their deal is.
The beverage is so pale I might confuse it with a Coors Light or something similarly taste-free. The head is the expected soda-like foam that pops up and dissipates so quickly that there was no chance of me capturing it in the picture. The aroma is apple pie. I think there's ginger in there, but the odd thing about smell is that you never really can be all that certain.First sip is very nice. The apple pie is thick with this one - probably more than the moonshine that I had that was actually called apple pie. The ginger is, again, a light dusting on top, and I think it's working out to make this feel a lot more like a pie than just apples and cinnamon. It is good enough that I'm going in for a swig, which I almost always do, anyway.
Tip-in is apples, cinnamon, and other spices that are led into the fray by ginger. The middle spreads into too much carbonation hitting the roof of the mouth and mixing with the ginger (which is way more than it was before). The finish is an improvement as the apple and spices hit for a very nice and sweet dose before the trail off brings back ginger.
Bottom Line: Sipping is good.
