Yes, I did it again. For some reason, I tried the flavored version of this Irish cream before trying the Irish cream that it was based on. I suppose it's not the worst thing ever, but it bothers me on some visceral level. Either way, I can't promise that I'm not gonna do it again, but I will complain about it. And yes, it will still be my fault. I won't be blaming Carolans for this catastrophe. Instead, I'm going to give this cream a good shot. I'm hoping it provides me with a good shot.
First sip is very cool and mellow. It is, understandably, creamy. The Irish whiskey in it is being used is very mellow, and the cream has been blended into it in a way that leaves a delightful trail off. It's very similar to Baileys in every other respect, but the trail off is almost like a cookie. Yes, a vanilla cookie with some assorted spices, and the cookie is still warm. It is very delightful.
Subsequent sips find that the alcohol isn't quite as hidden as it at first seemed. Instead, the 17% ABV is actually pretty forward. It's not terrible by a longshot, but it is not as subdued as beverages it directly competes against. The cookie finish still remains, and it can make up for almost any sin. This is still a good cream.
Bottom Line: Ireland still has plenty of other creams and her.
