When I had the regular Whisper Creek sipping cream, I directly compared it with Bailey's Irish cream, and there was no chance that it was going to live up to that. As a result, it got a fairly low 1.5 rating, but I was trying to be as fair to it as I could be. Adding flavoring to this - such as the strong flavors of peanut butter and chocolate - stands a darn good chance of turning this below average liquor into a good beverage for just kicking back and sipping. That's why I'm going to give this a try.
Straight out of the bottle, and I wouldn't be able to tell by looking that this was any different than the regular sipping cream that I had last time. The aroma doesn't hit me in the face as soon as I pour it, so I am lulled into a false belief that this isn't going to have much of a smell. Once I put this up near my nose, I can smell almost nothing but peanut butter. If there is chocolate in the beverage, it is fighting and losing this battle.First sip is a strange, rather unpleasant bite at the beginning of the beverage that reminds me that this is a 20% ABV liquor and not some lowly 8.2% ABV peanut butter stout. Right after that bite, the beverage smooths into its natural creaminess that is tinged with watered-down peanuts. I suppose I could probably make the leap into peanut butter, but the creaminess is coming from the liquor and not the peanuts themselves or anything added with the peanuts. And chocolate? They say there's some in here. I don't taste it.
A few more sips in, and I might be able to fool myself into believing that there is a very thin chocolate that has been added, but that may be more suggestion than anything. Really, what multiple sips tell me is that the sharp alcohol bite disappears relatively quickly, and the result is a beverage that can plausibly be sip for extended periods of time.
Bottom Line: Better than the one it's based on.
