I genuinely used to think that Irish cream was the only kind of cream liquor available. Then, the southern cream caught my eye one day, and I realized that even in Texas, made with Tennessee whiskey, you can make a pretty darn good cream liquor. Well, this one appears to be entirely from the state of Tennessee, and it is based on the idea of Tennessee sipping whiskey. I suppose this makes sense, and I'm willing to give it a try if they are.
First sip echoes the aroma. This thing is definitely proud of the whiskey that they are using, and they don't mind it being all up in front of the cream. The cream tempers the whiskey well enough, I suppose, as you're not going to confuse this with a straight whiskey, but the wood taste lingers too long and too rough. I think the real issue is the lack of sweetness. That seemed to be the defining characteristic of the previous creams, and this doesn't really have it.
Second sip (this is sipping cream) isn't any better. This is unbalanced and not particularly pleasant to drink. I'm not sure who is the target audience, but this will not be taking any of the customers away from the other creams I've had. This is course and unrefined.
Bottom Line: Course and unrefined, like I just said.
