Let me begin with the excuses. This is going to suck, and I know it's going to suck. I did not intentionally purchase this standalone. This came in a multi-pack, and the overall score for Left Hand is going to suffer as a result. There's no getting around this, as I already paid for the beer, so I am going to do a review. It has lots of little pictures of coffee beans on the front, and they call it a coffee stout. I don't like coffee, so I'm not going to like this beer. Nevertheless, I figured I would give it a shot. After all, I paid money for it.
Unsurprisingly, it looks like a stout. It's actually not as thick and impenetrable as you might think. The corners of the beer show a lot of amber going down into the inky blackness of the center. Ultimately, there isn't much haze to the beer, but it's dark enough that it's not going to be letting a whole lot of light through. It doesn't really produce much head, and it doesn't retain much. A little wisp of small bubbles is allowed to journey out into the center of the beer while most of the remaining bubbles cling to the sides. The aroma is overwhelmingly coffee, and I already have said this is going to be bad.
First sip is incredibly, astoundingly, and predictably bad. It tastes like somebody just cold brewed me a coffee. It's bad. It's not good. I don't really know how else to describe it, and I'm not going to bother. I'm obviously not going to be doing a full swig, and I'm going to go rinse my mouth out with something else. Probably moonshine. I think I have some blue flame still sitting in a cupboard, and I would rather have that taste in my mouth.
Bottom Line: Terrible
