What is this? I mean, I know it's a whiskey, but what is a whipped cream whiskey? Ordinarily, if something has actual dairy products in it, it will come with some kind of warning, and this doesn't have one. Either way, I can already see into the bottle, and it doesn't look like it has any cream actually infused into it. If it does, and it still managed to be this color, they've done some kind of magic. On the bottle it says, "Chill it. Shoot it. Shake it. Share it!" Hopefully they don't want me to do these things in this order. Otherwise, shoot it must mean actually shoot it with a gun, and that will result in it shaking, and if someone is near, they will probably be splattered. I guess that can be interpreted as sharing? I don't know how I would enjoy that as a whiskey.
Well, it looks the same in a glass as it did in the bottle. That is to say, it is a very light whiskey color. I might go so far as to say this is yellow. It's unusual, at least in my limited experience, for a whiskey to not just look like whiskey. You know, it looks like the thing that gets sat on the bar in westerns when someone walks up and says, "Whiskey." They don't give a brand, and they certainly don't ask for bourbon. Instead, they will take whatever is available, and whatever it is has probably been distilled by the barkeep in a bathtub somewhere. This isn't that color. Maybe the name is throwing me, but I think I can actually smell some cream in with the whiskey.
First sip is... Holy crap. It tastes really good. I absolutely taste whipped cream in with the whiskey, and it mellows the whiskey out like you wouldn't believe. At 35% ABV, this just about right for whiskey, and the it's surprising they could do that with what they've added. I don't know if it's in the same league as the barbecue whiskey, but it's pretty darn good. Mind you, I did put in a couple of ice cubes to make sure it stays cold this time. I may do that as a regular course. I know that purists will complain about it watering down the whiskey, but it keeps it nice and cold, and I think that's what whiskey needs.
As I continue to sip, it gets even more mellow. The sweetness of the whipped cream is really doing wonders for the dryness of the whiskey itself. The result is a sublime and enjoyable beverage that I may absolutely get if I see it at whatever bar I happen to be in. Mind you, that's assuming there is no good beer on tap. Still, to have elevated itself to the conversation is a win.
