I can't help but like Panther Creek. Not all of their beers have been winners, but they are striving for good beer, and they generally hit it. On top of that, they have the confidence of a small brewery, so they give their beers fun names that still let you know what to expect. Example One: Beer Flavored Bier. You know what you're getting, don't you?
Looks like beer. It's nice and gold in the center, and the sticky white head is leaving pretty lacing. What strikes me, and it shouldn't, is just how clear the beer is. So many breweries seem to have leaned into the hazy trend so hard that it's refreshing to see a nice, beer-commercial-style beer. The aroma is sweetness and flowers; it smell pretty good, but the botanicals may be a bit much.
First sip is a delightful hit of flowers, honey, and light citrus. There is a bitter cloud forming overhead, but it never rains on the otherwise sweet parade. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of German styles, but this is honest, simple, and I'm already enjoying it. I think the problem is that there is an arbitrary limit to the amount that I can really enjoy a beer like this, and it's not the 5/5 rating. If the full swig doesn't change things, this will get lost in the obscurity of other beers.
Tip-in is sweet honey biscuit with flowers draped around it and mild carbonation. The middle arises with a refreshing wave of thick, sweet malt under citrus and flowers. The finish is more honey with biscuits turning to crust and sweetness holding on for the trail off.
