I put this one off. I often put off a beer that I fear or that I suspect won't be what it needs to be. Sometimes, I put off a beer because I want to wait for a special occasion, but this isn't that. The fact that it's called Mortal Bloom indicates that there will be flowers featured prominently in the flavor profile, and they are really just kind of a step ahead of pine - something you would be better off trying to cover with a vibrant yeast or a stoic malt. But this also says that it has a lot of fruit in it, so we shall see.
The gold beer produces minimal head that leaves little more than a dusting and the usual ring of bubbles. The aroma is rather demure fruits, and they smell really nice. Citrus and tropical fruits vie for position, but neither of them is winning, and I know I'm not losing. So, it's a solid presentation. Now to get to where the rubber meets the road.
First sip is zippy, tangy, and refreshing. The fruit flesh is heaped in there with oranges, grapefruit, mango and starfruit. The flavors are very nice, and I wonder why they named this after flowers. I mean, you can name your beer anything you want, I guess, but it would make sense to name it after one of the ingredients or something.
Tip-in is maybe a slight floral hint before mangoes and grapefruit combine over a strangely acidic center. The middle become a carbonation burn fest as the fruits and flowers kind of ball up in the center of the mouth. The finish is a nicely gentle bitterness with fruit flakes tossing themselves around for a smidge of bitterness as we head for the trail off.
