Here's the thing - this doesn't say what style of beer it is on the can. It says that it's "Nana's Puddin' Shnack," but that speaks to additional flavors and not the core beer. Fortunately, I only have one Tailgate beer glass, so I don't have to fret about it for the pictures, but it would be nice to know if this is an IPA, stout, DIPA, or something entirely different. Once again, breweries not bothering to put useful information on their products makes me think there needs to be some industry standard.
Well, this was just not the color or thickness that I really expected. Some beers call themselves "hazy" as a cash grab, but this thing can take them all out and show them what being hazy really means. It doesn't produce as much head as I expected, but I still don't know what kind of beer it is. I'll look it up before I post this, but I'm just going to savor the experience with the beer for now. The aroma is very sweet, and I get where they are coming from with bananas, but I've had way too much banana pudding in my day to say this smells exactly like it. It almost smells tart.
First sip is not nana puddin, but it's very good. It is rich and smooth with a notable sweetness, bananas, and vanilla. The tart that I smelled is there, and it is all lumped-up in the back end. It's not really doing the rest of the beer any favors. I can't pick out the malt or anything, so I still have no idea what the style is, but it doesn't matter if it's good. And this is... good enough. Maybe it will break out in the full swig.
Tip-in is sweet bananas with a subtle yet unmistakable tartness alongside mild vanilla. The middle is very un-puddin-like with citrus peeking out over the creamy center and nominal carbonation intruding. The finish is an echo of the tip-in with banana, vanilla, and tart clinging to the trail off.
