I'm not much of a hard liquor drinker, and I'm even less of a vodka drinker, but this one just struck me as strange looking, so I decided I would pick it up and do a review. Who knows, maybe I will come up with a new and more enjoyable way of introducing alcohol to my system. It actually took me a little bit to figure out that this was a flavored vodka. It prominently says what the name of the distillery is, and it says dive in at the top as if that is the name of the distillery, but it's not. Then there is the word lemon that shows itself on the front label three times. It says vodka once, and it is in relatively small letters at the bottom of the logo. I wonder if they're ashamed that this is vodka.
After pouring it, it looks like the vodka seltzers that I've had recently from Sunny D, and I did not like those seltzers. I'm not going to hold that against this straight vodka, but I figured I would note the similarity of the nearly lemonade look. That said, it is a watery lemonade. The aroma is lemons laden with more alcohol than they know how to cover up. The flavor of the beverage may not be able to hold up to the amount of alcohol that is sitting behind it. At least, that's what it smells like.
First sip isn't great. The beginning of the beverage starts with almost no flavor, and then it blossoms into a full alcohol burn that is worse than a lot of lower ABV moonshines that I've had. After the burn is gone, the lemon hits hard with no additional flavors to tone it down. As a result, this is an impressively lopsided and unbalanced beverage that is going to probably require the entire night to properly tease out, even though I only have this one small 100 ml bottle. Nevertheless, I will endure for you, my occasional readers.
Eventually, the Alcohol wears me down. The lemon becomes more than enough to suspend the alcohol, and it smooths out as the effect of a 35% ABV beverage takes hold.
