It feels like it has been a long time since I had a moonshine, but it turns out it really hasn't. Either way, I've got a moonshine in front of me that I hand-picked from all of the beverages that I have yet to review that I already have in the house. I know that cinnamon does a great job with whiskeys, and I believe it will do just as good of a job with moonshine. There's no need to go through the expensive aging process of a whiskey if you're just going to cover up the taste with cinnamon. That's why you should just add it to moonshine!
This is really red. Like, I mean really red. There are precious few regulations saying what needs to be on the label of any alcohol, and I am betting the rather furious red simply falls under the "certified colors." I don't even know how you certify a color. I'm not even sure I would want to certify a color. Why didn't they just put natural and artificial colors like everyone else does and move on with life? Oh, and the aroma is cinnamon and heavy alcohol. This smells every bit of its 35% ABV.
First sip covers up the alcohol well in the taste, but that warming sensation as it goes down to the stomach is irrepressible, and I would not want them to repress it. It is, in my opinion, the best part about drinking heavy alcohols. It's warming, it's soothing, and it reminds me that I'm drinking a beverage that was made for adults. The cinnamon is similar to those hot tamale candies that are made by the same company that makes Mike & Ikes. Overall, the sip is uneventful and pretty good.
Time has instructed me to add ice to the beverage. I made a mistake of trying this at room temperature, and I think that was to the detriment of the beverage itself. It wasn't terrible at room temperature, but once ice is added, it improves immensely. I'm going to put the rest of the jar in the fridge, and I will give this a bunch of new chances over the next couple weeks. Either way, my review will reflect that it's pretty good.
