Last in the series of so far very disappointing whiskeys from Jack Daniels. Is it my fault or theirs that I don't seem to like whiskey? I mean, I have liked some moonshines just fine, and these are effectively just moonshine that has aged. When they add "fire," I assume it is cinnamon they are adding in an effort to be like Fireball or something. I want to like this.
Once again, the whiskey looks like whiskey, and it demonstrates the limitations of my process. I look at each beer that comes through, and each is subtly different from the others. It is in that differentiation that I first start to build an idea of the beer, but whiskey gives me no such starting point. The aroma of this, however, is not that of beer. It is slight cinnamon with quite a bit of whiskey.First sip is much, much better than previous Jack attempts. It has the heft and warmth of a whiskey, but it is much smoother than the others and turns very quickly to cinnamon as its flavor. The warmth with the cinnamon makes for a nice little fire in my belly as the vague sweetness added to the cinnamon remains as a very nice taste in the mouth.
Subsequent sips highlight the whiskey a bit more, but it is very well entwined with the cinnamon to the point that I wonder why they can't do something like this for the other versions of their whiskey. Maybe it is something particular to the cinnamon that makes this work, but work it does.
Bottom Line: Best of breed.
