This is the first I've heard of the Columbus Brewing Company. I've had plenty of Yazoo beers, and they are generally better than the locals would have had me believe. I am instinctively reminded of the Hipster Repellent IPA that Blackstone produced. I haven't been a fan of most Blackstone beers, but when they found someone else's recipe to duplicate, they really nailed it. Maybe Yazoo is really going to break out with someone else's recipe, too.
The sucker produces quite a bit of a head, and the points of nucleation are plentiful. It seems like there will be no end to the carbonation inside this beer, but it does eventually fizzle down to a full inch of foamy goodness that is patchy and leaves tons of lacing. The bright yellow beer looks very good underneath, and so far so good. The smell isn't great, as spices are mingled with a slight skunk that is sitting on the malt. I'm hoping the taste doesn't follow the nose.
Well, there is definitely too much skunk in here. There is a scuffed packaged date that indicates this was well within the 6-month window that these should normally be imbibed by. I'm not exactly sure why this is skunked, but I assume this has gone through too many heat cycles. I'm not sure if doing a full gulp would do this beer or service. I'm betting it will not, and I'm not going to subject myself to it.
