My fondness for an Arnold Palmer is documented well enough. I have had previous attempts at hard versions of this delightful beverage, and they were all unique in their own ways. The series of hard teas that I've gotten from Voodoo Ranger have been above the others, generally speaking. As a result, I'm really expecting that this half and half mixture of lemonade and iced tea is going to be something extra special.
Well, it doesn't pour particularly special. Honestly, what can you do with iced tea and lemonade? Based on the color, there isn't a whole lot of lemonade that has actually been added. This is the same dark color that the previous teas have been, and I'm not sure that I like that. I don't like the darkness of this tea stand alone, and that's before they have supposedly added lemonade to change the color and flavor. The aroma is not significantly different than the lemon tea version of this exact same beverage, but the alcohol and heaviness of the sweetness is already noteworthy. The presentation isn't making me think that this is going to go particularly well.
First sip is virtually indistinguishable from the aforementioned lemon version of the tea. It might be a little sweeter, but I don't think it has a whole lot more lemon. If there's one thing this didn't need, it was more sweetness. The alcohol is sitting behind the sweetness to give the beverage of feeling of thickness, but it's not really stretching its legs as a proper Arnold Palmer. Maybe I'm just getting used to these beverages, and it turns out, I'm not really a fan.
Continued sipping reveals the amount of cloyness that the beverage contains within. It is leaning too hard on attempts to mask the alcohol, and that is to the detriment of the rest of the beverage. I had high hopes for this, and I still have another version of their tea waiting for me in the fridge. After I drink that one, I may go for a while without trying another one of these. Maybe I should go back to ciders.
