I am hoping that I chose the correct name for the brewery. On the can, it says that it was brewed for Queens & Kings. That's the only mention of them, and the logo is suspiciously similar to Soul & Spirits. I'm just going to go with Soul & Spirits. Also, I'm not going to start a new label for American IPA. I went ahead and created one for New England IPA, and I can't remember if I eventually started one for West Coast IPA. Either way, those are both American styles of IPA. If this can't pick one side or the other, that's on them.A gentle pour results in far too much head, but it isn't the worst that I've ever seen. I'm looking at close to 3 inches of foam that I have to wait to go down before I can finish emptying the can in this glass. I still can't tell if there's going to be much lacing, but the head doesn't go down past about an inch. This is a lot of foam for a beer. The somewhat hazy gold beer underneath has many points of nucleation that are sending reinforcements to that giant patch of foam in the center of the glass. The aroma is very good with a sweet malt, flowers, and possibly even some cloves.
First sip is a little bit dank, but it's not the kind of overwhelming dank that makes me feel like I've been drinking someone's bong water. Tropical and citrus fruits are relatively sedate and fairly well mixed while what I thought was floral hops haven't seemed to materialize. The beer has a good heft to it with a fairly solid, if meandering, malt, so the overall impression with a single sip is that this is pretty darn good. There is a slight hint of bitterness to the end, but it's nothing that's going to overwhelm the rest of the beer.
Tip-in is minimal to moderate carbonation with pine and fruit skins prodding at the taste buds. The middle gets a little dank that mixes with the fruits in a very pleasing way while the moderate carbonation sticks to the roof of the mouth. The finish gets more dank as bitterness swells from the depths before fruit skins arrived for the trail off.
Bottom Line: It manages not to be overly dank, so it's pretty decent.
