I have had a few days in between this review and the one for the last Simply Spiked beverage. None of these have been particularly good, and I think that's down to the quality of the lemonade they are starting with and the fact that they added carbonation to all of them. These are two significant and damning flaws that they can't and won't be forgiven for, but maybe... just maybe... watermelon can cover the faults.
First sip reminds me that watermelon isn't really that strong of a flavor. It has a flavor, and I like that flavor, and I have recently had watermelon itself. That said, watermelon isn't strong like an onion or pickle. I have had the lemonade without watermelon added to it, and I remember it having a stronger flavor than this one has. Did they tone down the lemon in order to have the watermelon feature a little better? Either way, this is not coming through as particularly flavorful. Instead, it is somewhat refreshing, but it is quite forgettable.
Tip in is gentle carbonation with an overly sweet lemonade that is at least partially derived from artificial sweeteners. I don't know where the watermelon is at the beginning, though. The middle brings some of the watermelon out to play while the lemonade is soothing and refreshing, but the sweetness is still just really off. It's possible the more demure flavoring from this particular derivant is featuring the fake sweetness a lot more than the others did, but it is to the beverage's detriment. The finish has a wave of tartness, and that tartness doesn't let go even after the semi-sweet lemon trail off.
