I think my reviews of the Simply Lemonades may have peaked. I don't remember what the last one is going to be, but this one is blueberry. I think strawberry was just about their best shot to get this right, and it didn't seem completely right. It was, in fact, worse than the lemonade with no flavor added. It is possible that the underlying problem is that the base lemonade wasn't all that great. I say that, but the Simply Lemonade this was supposed to be based on was actually really good. I mean to say that the spiked version of that lemonade, which doesn't appear to have anything to do with the actual Simply Lemonade, wasn't particularly good.I've had blueberry flavor added to beverages before, and this is following the strawberry's lead in adding blueberry juice concentrate. Nevertheless, it adds a familiar blueberry color to the lemonade, but for some reason it then turns it up several notches to make it an almost purple beverage. I'm not sure where they were coming from or going to with this color. Anyway, this also is needlessly carbonated, so I'm still not sure if I should be calling this a soda or lemonade. The aroma is lemons with heavy alcohol and a little bit of blueberry added. All told, it doesn't really seem like this is going to be all that great. I hope I'm wrong.
First sip is not all that great. The blueberries seems languid and gutless amongst the alcohol-laden soda water with a lemon spritz added. I don't know why am being so much harsher on this that I was with the strawberry, but this just isn't as good. On the can, it says 5% real fruit juice. I'm guessing it should have been higher than that. I'm guessing it should have been significantly higher than that. So, there's not much to do other than try a full gulp.
Tip-in is sweetness with alcohol over carbonated water that has been used to rinse some lemons. The middle once again sends carbonation to the roof of the mouth while the blueberries and lemons actually dance pretty nicely with sweetness in the center. The finish is a hodgepodge of alcohol, fruit skins, and wateriness.
Bottom Line: It seems like these are getting worse.
