Maybe my bad start with seltzers had something to do with the tequila that the Ranch Water was using. This Truly brand uses vodka, and I think I've only had vodka in the Moscow Mule kit that I got as a present, but it might have been in one of the canned liquors I tried. The Mule was good enough, and I think it highlights what I understand is the best thing about vodka - it basically has no taste.
It appears this is just what all these hard seltzers are going to look like. It's not clear, and it's not clean. The head is gone like the wind. Honestly, the presentation is uninspiring. The aroma, however, is a step up on the Ranch Water that I had. Appropriately, it smells of pineapple and lemons. It smells very good, but I know that these things are designed to be pretty watery, and that will negatively impact this aroma.First sip is not nearly as watery as it could have been, but it's also not as good. The pineapple and lemons are mixed with quite a bit of sweetener, and I'm not sure it's working. The lemons could definitely use them, but the pineapple is naturally sweet and tart at the same time, and the added sweetener is making it too sweet for the pineapple to successfully work through. Still, at least it's not watery.
Tip-in is carbonation sizzle across the whole mouth with pineapple and lemons dancing around in a surprisingly tart way. The middle seeps in with the overly sweet overtones that tamp down any of the enjoyment I almost had at the start. The finish is a wash of sickly sweet pineapple and lemon skins.
Bottom Line: At least it's not watery.
