There are, inevitably, beers that I metaphorically and literally put on the back shelf. They are beers that I put off doing a review of after I do a normal beer run. Obviously, I bought them, so I want to try them. The problem is, they present specific challenges. This beer claims to be dank. I have found in my reviews that some beers can successfully do dank well, and I enjoyed the beverage. But, there is the lingering fear that other beers will not withstand the scrutiny that I put forth in my process.
The beer pours a bright yellow, and the sticky head comes out pretty quickly to leave quite a bit of lacing on the sides. The aroma is, as it says on the label, somewhat dank. That said, it doesn't appear to be overly so. Instead, citrus and tropical fruits have a slight dankness to them, and I dig that pretty much. I just really hope I don't get hit with a dank hammer whenever I take a sip.First sip is surprisingly good. The tropical fruits mix with the comparatively light citrus and the dank becomes more of a film applied to the existing flavors. It seems like the dank hangs on a little longer than the fruits do, but I'm not sure it's annoying me yet. That said, it's only one sip. What will two sips be like? I may never know. For it is my duty to gulp.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation burn with dank tang and tropical fruits. The middle sends the carbonation to the roof of the mouth as the dank seems to infuse the tropical and citrus fruits in the center, and it muddles the taste of any of those fruits. The finish is a reign of dank where nothing else can survive, and the dank holds on for the trail off.
Bottom Line: I thought there was a chance during the sip.
