I will admit that I didn't even know how to properly title this entry. It appears that the brewing company is called The Post Brewing Company. It also has a brand of Howdy Beer which seems like a fake name that some sitcom would use when they can't afford to pay for a licensed product. Then, it says that it's a Western Pilsner. I've had plenty of Pilsners, but this is the first that has called itself Western. I don't know what that entails. This is brewed in Denver, Colorado, so I guess it's The West. So they should know.
It appears that the The West does not filter their Pilsner as much as the style would typically call for. As a result, it is a slightly hazy yellow with a forthright head of white bubbles that boils down to a nice little pillow with bits of lacing gripping the sides nicely. The aroma is bread with some light pine eased into it. I'm not really sure what to make of the aroma, as it doesn't put me in mind of other Pilsners that I've had.First sip is quite odd. It is sweet and bready in the middle, but the end is pine, dry, and a little bit skunked. Honestly, this put me more in mind of a popular American lager more than a Pilsner. I'm not really sure what I'm feeling about this beer, but I can't say that I would want to sip this all night. As a result, it looks like it's not getting a good review so far. However, many of these kinds of beers reward a more aggressive approach. That's why we gulp.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation fizzle with bread, lemons, and light pine. The middle hits the roof of the mouth hard with carbonation sizzle as the pine and bitterness seep in and displace the bread almost entirely. The finish is... Bad. The dryness, bitterness, and skunk all coalesce into a less than enjoyable experience.
Bottom Line: I don't think I am the intended audience for this beer.
