The last can I looked at, I complained about possibly a little too much. I was annoyed by the weird artistic interpretation of crap on the can and really wasn't in the mood to deal with it. This can, however, has a singular vision, and consequently it is cute and endearing. It has sasquatches looking through binoculars and other sasquatches through binoculars and having a fun old time. I can get with this weird kind of cartoony humor, so let's go.
From the can, the beer is somewhat hazy with quite a bit more head than I expected. Once the bubbles dissipate, a thin but uneven layer of bubbles almost completely covers the top of the beer with a strong ring around the sides and plenty of points of nucleation down at the bottom of the glass. If my nose is to be believed (I'm a little stuffed up from allergies) it has a bunch of wheat in it. Who would've thought? Strangely, that's about all I'm picking up. I expected at least a light lemon or something, but I'm not smelling it.First sip is good, simple, and straightforward. The wheat is grainy, but it manages to bring enough sweetness to even out the experience. There is a light lemon zest that has managed to improve matters quite a bit with just a little taste. I once again find myself wondering if this beer would be traditionally served with a slice of citrus wedge or something in a bar, but this isn't a bar. And there are no clear instructions to do that on the can, so I didn't do it. I'm not sure based on the sip that it needs it. It's just a sip, and that may be working to its benefit right now. I could see that this might become a very flat experience with so few flavors in the mix. But let's see if a swig can tease something else out.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation buzz with lemon sprits and wheat. The middle, which I was afraid would be a bit watery, turns out to be solid with grains and lemongrass. The finish is a bit more wobbly with bitterness digging in its heels unexpectedly as the gain turns to husks and the lemon goes away almost completely.
Bottom Line: It has its moments.
