I keep trying. Just like this brewery, I keep trying to see if they can put out something good. Sorry, that's unkind. The graph in the bottom of this page will show that they are capable of putting out some pretty decent beers, but they seem so few and far between. I really don't know what the special spark that they're missing is, but they just haven't run across it. The only thing that came close was when they brewed Hipster Repellant IPA under the license from some other brewery. Maybe that should be their thing. Let's see if this one is a knockout hit.
The relatively clear golden beer has an unremarkable head that dissipates down to an almost complete covering of small bubbles with a handprint of bubbles in the middle and the quite predictable ring around the sides of the class. The aroma is quite good. A dominant malt has a little lemon tossed in with grapefruit backing everything up very well. While I wasn't too impressed with the look of the beer, I am very impressed with the scent.First sip is exceptionally mild. The 4.9% ABV and the word session inserted prominently into the title should have told me that this was intended to be more of a competitor to an all day IPA like the very good one from Founders. As a result, the goal is to make an approachable beer that isn't going to get you hammered right away. While the taste is good, the lack of punch results in a somewhat watery experience. It reminds me of the light beers that I have been testing lately. It's better than most of them, at least in a sip.
Tip-in is mild carbonation tingle with relatively smooth grains over lemons. The middle isn't as watery as I had feared it would be, and the resulting mix of thick malt, spices, and hops is a pleasant enough experience all on its own. The finish comes down with the bitter swell as carbonation sizzle once again singes before leaving for a lonely, bitter trail off.
Bottom Line: This is a pretty tasty and crushable beer.
