I recently got confused between the Voodoo Ranger line of beers from New Belgium and the Voodoo brewery just outside of Pittsburgh. I can't imagine I'm the first person to get confused by such things, and I know I got all mixed up with one of the worse beer producers (I think it was Prairie) that call themselves "artisan" and a Canadian company that shared the name. I haven't had any beers from the Canadian brewery, and that's a shame.
First sip is quite smooth, nicely balanced, and it manages to be bitter and sweet at the same time. The fruits are all mingling together nicely, and the carbonation is just icing on the cake rather than an intrusive guest. This may be one of the best sipping IPAs I've had yet. When I had my first New Belgium, I'm not sure I could have imagined this beer. It's really, really good.
Tip-in is mild carbonation tingle with sweet tangerine, pear, and grapefruit meat. The middle rolls in with a smooth concoction of fruits all swirling under a carbonation cap, but the balance is just about perfect. The finish is a bit harsh with a bitterness, a dryness, and a certain prickliness that detracts from the beverage just a bit.
Bottom Line: You bought the whole six pack. Drink up.
