So, New Belgium still produces a beer that they don't categorize as a Voodoo Ranger beer. I really wish I knew what their deal was with their product line, but I'm too lazy to try to do anything about it. Let's just leave it at this - it's confusing for those of us who don't subscribe to your Twitter feed or work in the brewery.
First sip is.. almost dank. I didn't expect that at all, but here it is, drying up my mouth and making me wonder what made them take this turn. It's not really dank, but it's a pretense of dank brought by a bitterness, dryness, slight funk, and pine. I was really expecting something fruity, and this is bringing fruits, but then it bends a significantly different direction.
Tip-in is semi-sweet tropical fruit rinds with just a slight carbonation burble. The middle brings a relatively smooth mix of pine, peach, apricot, pear, watermelon, orange, and grapefruit. The finish is a dry and bitter mix where the pine jabs at the tongue before the the dry and bitter (and I'm going to say hinting at dank) trail off.
Bottom Line: They went a different way. This is not the way.
