The only other Wicked Weed beer I had was a novelty-named beer in support of the local hockey team. It was okay, but it felt rushed and not really the best they could do. That said, it was better than average, but it was still within striking distance of the 2.5 average beer. Mind you, an average beer is... still not half bad.
First sip is bitter flowers and fruit rinds above the caramel malt. The impression I get is that of a more robust version of the light beer I recently had; this is similarly trying a bit too hard for its ABV, but it has the benefit of being less watery and more casual about its hops. The sip isn't blowing me away, but it's not bad.
Tip-in is bitter and tart with lemon, grapefruit, and starfruit generating the bitterness with a mild carbonation background. The middle is a searing carbonation across the tongue while the fruits are joined by a bit of tangerine and the caramel is a ghost at the back of the mouth. The finish is a muting of the carbonation and bitterness, but they don't go away. The malt asserts a sweetness for the trail off.
Bottom Line: Not terrible or terrific.
