I'll admit that I bought this completely because I remembered drinking and enjoying the Jai Alai beer from these guys, and this appears to be the low calorie version of that beer. I'm still in search of a good beer that doesn't have a whole lot of calories that also has a lot of taste, so I figured I would give this one a try. At 120 cal, this isn't like drinking water, but it's not that bad. At 4.0% ABV, it may actually be the same as drinking water. We're gonna find out.
The moderately hazy beer doesn't produce a whole bunch of head right out of the can, and the big bubbles flee very quickly to leave nothing but the very tiny bubbles completely covering the top of the beer and gripping to the sides without leaving lacing. The aroma is fresh and citrus smelling, and I feel almost refreshed just having had a smell. The presentation on this low calorie beer is very good.First sip isn't excessively watery, but it lacks significant punch. The carbonation seems to be doing most of the work, but the citrus seems to surge about midway through. There is a little lag in between the two, and that void isn't really filled by anything at all, but the acidic citrus finish is striking, and I don't think anyone would claim that this is a wallflower. It might be crisp, but it lacks any kind of smoothness.
Tip-in is carbonation fizzle everywhere with citrus peels scattered about the mouth haphazardly. Carbonation doesn't take a break for the middle, and the fruit meat is obscured as a result, so the taste is more of peels and zest of grapefruit, orange, lemons, and nectarines. If there's a malt in here doing something, I don't know what it is, as the finish is bitter and stinging with all the carbonation.
Bottom Line: Unbalanced and seemingly unfinished.
