Absolutely no idea if this has anything to do with the
Molotov Cocktail that was my first
Evil Twin beer. Since then, Evil Twin has been one of the most spastic and unpredictable brewers I've encountered. They severely lack consistency, so I'm not even sure why I got this (other than that I had an empty growler and needed to fill it).
Just like all of these growlers, this has no head. I think it has something to do with the actual system of getting the beer in the growler, because I know a lot of head came out at the time, and that was just a few hours ago, and they went into a growler with a very good seal. The color of the beer is a very interesting mahogany that leans toward brown. The aroma is a sweet malt and a hovering mist of fruit juices.
First sip is overwhelming. It is sour, tart, malty, yeasty, and has the lingering impression of very heavy alcohol. It's big and... not good. I have often regaled my loyal readers with a litany of damning epithets when I encounter a sour beer, and this definitely has sour up front, but the mix of so many things trying to happen all at once is just too much for the mouth to contend with.
Tip-in is watery lemon juice with a yeast and the echo of a resin. The middle is an unpleasant sour with a malt of unstable honey and a foul yeast while lemon spritz just adds to a funk. The finish is a sack of dry that comes down and spreads sour all over the place before a funky trail-off.
Bottom Line: I remember why I don't buy a lot from Evil Twin.
