Decadent from so many
dessert beers I'm going to have to go back to my notes in order to figure out how many I've had. When I think about a sorbet, I definitely think about something that would be a dessert, so I'm guessing this is inside their wheelhouse. The problem is, that the word
gose is written in white ink on a yellow background in a different orientation than everything else on the label. This is a sour beer, and I'm gonna hate it.
It certainly didn't enjoy me pouring it out of the can; the amount of carbonation coming out of this beverage is nearly overwhelming. The bubbles are relatively large, but they take forever to go down. Eventually, I just poured along the side and hoped. The resulting beverage is a very pale yellow, and points of nucleation abound in the very depths of the beer. So, even though I have no surviving head on top of the beer, bubbles are replenished around the sides on a regular basis. The aroma doesn't really have much mango to it, but it does have a heavy yeast with a lemon sourness. Won't this be fun.
First sip is not that bad. I'm not really a fan of the sour, and it definitely has sour inside it, but the sour is not taking over the entire flavor. Instead, the wheat from the malt seems to be mixing well with the pointed yeast to cover up for the unfortunate sourness. I don't taste anything creamy, despite the fact that this says not just that it came from Decadent Ales, but it came from Decadent Creamery. Mango, I positively taste all sloshed into the back end of the beer. It's unbalanced and sour, so I don't like it so far.
Tip-in is sour and tart with furious carbonation covering what is a mix of mango and lemons. I still don't think the middle gets creamy; instead, the yeast uncovers itself as a bit of a musty overlord while the sourness and tartness try to fight themselves over mango and lemon. The finish is an unpleasant heightening of sour while all the other flavors scurried to try and find some semblance of normalcy.
Bottom Line: Honestly, it's not the worst sour I've ever had.
