The beer is very golden. It makes most of the shades of gold that are on the can seem like pale yellow or dark brown substitutes. The white lacing being left on the sides by the medium-sized bubbles is artistic in appearance. For beer that specifically calls out it's haziness, it's really only slightly hazy. The aroma does not take a sensitive nose to smell. I'm getting pine, some tropical fruits, and even some citrus joining this dance. It smells really good.
First sip is relatively smooth and comparatively sweet for an IPA. In fact, I would say that sweetness is probably its defining factor. It's a syrupy sweetness rather than a sugar sweetness or even an agave sweetness. I'm not sure this would be all that bad to sip for the rest of the evening. However, that is not my way. Gulp is the way.
Tip-in is orange, tangerine, and grapefruit with a very sweet backing of toffee and molasses. The middle is smooth as those fruits are joined by light pine and star fruit. The finish is a sudden cessation of flavor before a mist of the remnants of the fruits pops back up with a sweetness that remains through the trail off.
Bottom Line: An impressive and memorable beer
