Is it as smooth as glass? Is that how it got that name? Is it smooth like a glassy lake where you might go fishing (which is to say, less smooth than actual glass)? I mention fishing, as it really seems like the fine folks at Northwoods really like to fish, as I can recognize a fishing lure approximately 37% of the time, and their logo makes it particularly easy. Either way, I'm not fishing today. I'm drinking.
The very hazy yellow beer puts out a nice, sticky head that will leave some lacing, but it's not going to be a bunch. The aroma is really the thing we need to talk about - it is dripping with fruits of all kinds, and it makes me want to drink the whole four pack right now.
First sip is juicy. It has stone fruit right up front with pears and nectarines, and close behind is grapefruit and melon. The taste is good until the end, as the bitterness from all those hops has to go somewhere, and it sours the fruits on the way out. Maybe this will work itself out in the full swig. Those fruits are worth the try, aren't they?
Tip-in is pears, citrus peel, and melon over moderate carbonation hiss. The middle swings in with a skin-like effect at the roof of the mouth that might be caused by the citrus and carbonation, but the tropical and stone fruits flow through the center. The finish is just too much with the bitterness clamping on to the acidity in a very off-putting way.
