I had been reluctant to try any of the Wizards' Order beers, as I associate wizards in popular culture with the crowd that prefers their beers dank, if you understand my meaning. However, a discussion I had with the very nice lady at Tailgate's local taproom indicated that I was painting with too wide of a brush, and I might have been confusing the Wizards' Order line with the Trees line, and that one was definitely of the dank variety. We shall see.
The quite hazy beer does, indeed, look a lot like juice. The head is going to be leaving lacing as it goes down, and that's pretty surprising, given how little head there really seems to be retained on the top. The aroma is tropical over citrus, but I move it away, and it's citrus over tropical, so let's just agree that there are a lot of fruits in here.
First sip is juicy and sweet. There may be some bitterness or dryness waiting for me on the back end of a swig, but the sip is extraordinarily nice and pleasant. The mouthfeel (not something I normally mention) is pillowy, and the fruits are grapefruit, mango, starfruit, and orange, and I am really just enjoying the amount of space a simple sip feels like it's taking up.
Tip-in is sweet and tangy fruit juice of the same fruits I tasted in the sip, and there is a curious lack of carbonation. The middle is smooth and similarly fruit-filled, as carbonation finally rises to the roof of the mouth in an unspoiled way. The finish is a creep of bitterness at the end that seems to take over too much for the trail off that turns a bit wheatgrass.
Bottom Line: You crafty wizards. You've made a dang good potion.
