I just had the Stone Hazy IPA, and this one claims to be similarly hazy. I literally have no idea what the G13 means, and I'm not doing homework. If a brewery decides to have a cheeky reference to something or ape a song lyric, I shouldn't be forced to do research to find out what it was and why they picked it. Either put the short version of the story on the can or STFU. So, let's just drink a beer.
I hate commenting on how hazy a "hazy" beer is. I feel like I'm justifying their business model of referring to something with a descriptor that they, presumably, charge more for or generate sales with, despite not actually adding value. The fluffy, sticky head looks very nice, and it'll leave pretty significant lacing, so I'm on board with it. The aroma is smooth tropical fruits that really make me think, inexplicably, of sipping this on a beach.
First sip is quite pleasurable. It's not the pillowy smooth texture that I recently had from the Konkey Dong, but I think the fruit pits that have been thrown in to engender a bit of bitterness make this a more complex beverage, and that has its own rewards. There is sweetness at the beginning of the beverage, but it's gone by the end, and only bitterness and a little bit of dryness is left in its wake. It's complex, and it is better for it.
Tip-in is tangerine, nectarine, mango skin, and a hint of orange. The middle spreads out with pine coming around, and bitterness being dragged behind it while the fluffy fruits float on top, unwavering despite the chaos beneath them. The finish is where bitterness closes down on all the remaining sweetness and that hint of dry sends fruits into the trail off.
