I actually just watched a whole video on IHOP and the slow slide they've had into eventual bankruptcy. They aren't there yet, but the hooked their wagon up to Applebee's, so it seems like a matter of time. I expect this pancake and bacon to be better than anything I might have gotten at IHOP. We shall see.
It looks like whiskey. This is not particularly strange, and I could probably have predicted that from just looking at it in the bottle. The aroma is really what makes this stand out, as I can smell the maple from a foot away. This says it's pancakes, and I can't disagree. It has the distinct aroma of the pancake batter that is just a little overcooked on the bottom of the frying pan. I wish I could say that I smelled bacon, but I just don't.
First sip is burning. It's not Blue Flame burning, but it's way worse than the scrumptious BBQ whiskey or similar. The flavored whiskeys normally cover the usual whiskey burn way better than this does, and regular whiskey can bring interesting flavors with the burn. This brings almost nothing but burn right up front, and the scorched pancakes are pretty far off the trailing end.
Subsequent sips reinforce the idea that this is way too unbalanced. Was Bubba this unbalanced? Is that why he wound up going... upstate? I mean, the nature of these kinds of beverages is that they get better over time, but that's because the tastebuds tend to get used to them, and the alcohol plies the resolve.
