On the face of it, $60 for some nachos seems very expensive. That said, I'm not sure where they encountered these nachos. I have had food from a food truck outside of a brewery before, and you pretty much pay whatever they are charging. Because these setups are usually in areas that are revitalizing, and they are necessarily younger and at least aspirationally affluent, I suppose they can try and really upcharge for what is on the face of it just some tortilla chips and cheese. Obviously, you would want to add some peppers, and for $60 I would expect a meat of some kind. But if the portion size was enough for four people or so, I could see this actually being some kind of a value proposition in those circumstances. But, that is heavily weighting it in the direction of $60. Does that include tip?
The orange beer is hazy as hell, and the head doesn't exactly burst out, but the nice layer of mixed bubbles covers the top completely, and it doesn't look like it's going to be going anywhere soon. Will it leave lacing? Well, I don't think so, but I'll have to tell you when I get further into the beer. There's every chance that I'm wrong, but these bubbles don't seem particularly sticky to me. The aroma is fruit husks and sweet malt with flowers lending themselves to the aroma.
First sip is unquestionably good. It is very smooth, very well balanced, and the fruits are giving a lot of flavor without engendering the entire thing with bitterness. That malt is doing a great job of stopping bitterness and lending weight to the beer. There isn't even anything weird or dry on the back end, and I'm looking forward to what a full swig is going to bring me.
Tip in is orange, tangerine, and grapefruit zest with very little carbonation to speak of. Carbonation moves into the roof of the mouth as the middle picks up with a cracker malt and a thinning of the fruits. The finish brings the heretofore absent bitterness with a little bit of tart, but the sweetness from the malt and the fruit peels rises up again for the trail off.
