The last Common John beer just didn't hit me where it needed to, but that's not going to rub the shine off of this little brewery that could. I'm still impressed that I could find their beer in my local store, despite being a good hour and a half from the brewery itself. I don't think Panther Creek has distribution that good yet, and those guys have had almost nothing but bangers.
I don't know that I'd call this golden. In fact, I would call this pale yellow. I might go so far as to call this very pale yellow. I might be convinced that this is a light beer. I may even accept the idea that this is a macro-brewery light lager based on color, minimal head retention, and quite startlingly numerous points of nucleation that never seem to die down. The aroma smells distinctly of skunk to the point that I check the date on the can. Well, I look for one. Ain't no date on the bottom, the sides... not even the top. I think I can smell malt under there, but I'm not bothering to review this now. That skunk smell is too much. I don't know why this would have skunked, but here I am with this beer in front of me, and that's all I can smell. It isn't good, and the beer won't get a good rating.
Bottom Line: Skunked.
