Once again, I find myself looking at a beverage that is from a vodka maker that is not made with vodka. I can understand why people would think that it must contain vodka, but it's a malt beverage. Is it also pop? Should I differentiate between soda and pop for my labels? I don't think I will, but there may be a pedant out there who will claim there is a difference. Also, I know that's not the "pop" they are referring to.
It's orange. It looks like orange soda. I may go so far as to say that it looks more like a tangerine soda than an orange one, though. I don't know who over there at Smirnoff decided how orange this should be, but they could have stepped it up a bit. I don't need electric orange, but more.. orangey would be nice. The aroma is an orange creamsicle. It smells good.
First sip is really odd. It doesn't have much of an alcohol taste, but that's likely due to it not having very much alcohol. The orange is muddled by the attempt to make it taste like there is some kind of cream, but all that is coming across is sweetness and an artificial aftertaste. It's not entirely unpleasant, but it's not particularly good. It really needs some help, and I'm thinking a swig might help it.
Tip-in is very sweet orange with mild carbonation fizzle. The middle evens out the sweetness and the orange to present as little more than a slightly watery orange soda. The finish has a hint of the cream, and I don't think I taste any of the artificial nature of the sip in the whole thing as orange hangs on with sweetness for the trail off.
