Another foxy beer from the folks at Nashville's own Marble Fox Brewing. This is a foxy blonde. Let me tell you a story - I was walking through Centennial Park in Nashville several years ago, when I noticed a blonde standing by an illegally parked pickup truck. There are plenty of pretty ladies and handsome gents in Nashville, but this woman stood out to me. She was unusually pretty. The kind that makes you look three times. Turns out, I had just discovered Hayden Panettiere as they were filming an episode of Nashville, Maybe this beer is named after her.
The beer is not the color I've seen every other time I've poured a blonde. It's not even the color of the hair of women I've seen around who are, in fact, blonde. It's orange with a little dirty dishwater added to it. If they'd have called it a dirty blonde, I would not have become so pedantic. The shallow head leaves a complete dusting on top of the beer, and the aroma is light grains and lemons.
First sip is sweet at first, and it then turns tart and hints at bitter. The lemon is embedded in a malt that seems a bit more crackery to me. It's not a bad sip at all. In fact, given my history with blondes, it's actually taking the whole style in a direction I can actively support. This one is trying to break out with some solid flavor.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation tingle with the malt seeming pretty crusty under bright lemons and possibly some pomegranate. The middle burns with carbonation while the flavors try to make themselves known and be smooth at the same time. I'd say they're generally working. The finish leans a bit to the tart way before being joined by bitterness and the finish turning vaguely dry.
