I have been through Tullahoma Tennessee many times, and I don't know where this "Ole Shed" might be. I am curious enough that I may go out of my way to try and locate it. Maybe, while I'm there, I will get myself a beverage. This heavily depends on whether or not I like this beer. As far as I can tell, I have not had any of their beers before, so the introduction is an IPA. Why is it called Haystack? I don't know. I would expect a beer named Haystack to be a wheat ale, but I'm not them.
The brass beer has an off-white head of very small bubbles that never really comes out that far, and it leaves an almost complete layer of bubbles across the top of the beer with the usual ring around the sides. I have brought this beer up to my nose three times now, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't have an aroma. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting a cold. I just got over one, and I thought my smell had come back but, this doesn't seem to have any smell.
First sip is kind of watery at first, but the back-end has quite a bit going on. The caramel malt is coming forward pretty hard, and the hops are bringing bitterness and flowers. Is it good? Well, it's different. I certainly wouldn't say it's bad. That weird wateriness at the beginning is a little disconcerting, and I wonder if the full swig will neuter that relatively unpleasant sensation.
Tip-in is light caramel malt with moderate carbonation and light flowers. The middle is actually very nice with the grains joining the caramel malt and the flowers merging into it to give texture to a very easily drinkable beer. The finish is a mess with far too much bitterness and the malt giving the sensation that it wants to become sour before the trail off.
