I remember '96. Honestly, I wish it was a little hazier in my head. But the music was pretty good, the movies included Brandon Lee's The Crow (not to be confused with the other The Crow), The Arrival (not to be confused with Arrival), and From Dusk Till Dawn. Hell, it was a pretty good year, overall. So, the beer has something to live up to.
She looks like a slightly watery orange juice. The minimal head and the really hazy orange reminds me of the orange juice from concentrate that you can get at McDonald's. The aroma is all about the tropical fruits, and they smell sweet and slightly tart (as many of those fruits do) without the harsh bitterness that will inevitably follow hops. This might be fun.
First sip holds the bitterness that the aroma did not. As a result, the mixed signals from the fruits (of which there are many) don't really know where they're going or what to do before the bitterness just kind of plops down on the couch, takes the bag of Doritos away from me, starts munching them, and changes the channel I was watching. It's unsettling.
Tip-in is bitter right off the bat with tropical fruit skins and pits. The middle becomes a smoother mix of fruits that's thick like a smoothie, but it still has bitter edges. The finish brings bitter back into the fold with fruit essence lingering in the trail off.
Bottom Line: I remember 1996 being better.
