No idea. I have no idea what the deal is with the "Dawn Again" name. Based on the skull on the front of the can, I'd say this is another instance where someone had an idea, and they didn't want to pay the licensing fee. So, here we are with a Dawn of the Dead beer that isn't allowed to say anything about the movie. In fact, it can't even show the reanimated corpses. So, we have what might be a nice pale ale with questionable branding.
The very hazy orange beer produces an off-white head that has some good retention. The strong ring corrals a flurry of bubbles that aren't giving up the ghost. The aroma is gorgeous - light citrus and tropical fruits merge in a slightly carbonated cloud of deliciousness. Screw it. I'm going in.
First sip is a lot more bitter on the back end than the aroma would indicate. I really wanted this to be a smooth ride with fruits, sweetness, maybe a little tart, and then a bitter bite on the trail off. You know, like a pale ale. Instead, this is hitting hard with bitterness to the point that I can't even enjoy the fruits. I wonder if a swig will help matters out.
Tip-in is rather acidic with orange, grapefruit, and tangerine milling about with no sweetness at all. I mean, it's like when you brush your teeth and then have a sip of orange juice. The toothpaste prevents you from tasting the sweetness, so all you get is the bitter, and that's how this starts. The middle moves with a retard of the acid and bitterness, but the bitter still kind of strangles the flavors. The finish is more of the same, with bitterness slapping the crap out of the fruits.
