I've got one more after this, and we have yet to really break out into fantastic. This thing needs to be out of the average range in order to really leave an impression. Right now, I don't know that I would say that these are significantly better than any of the seltzers that I remember being okay, and I would most likely grab a beer that was rated the same, or within half a rating point, just because I prefer beer.
I expected this to have a bit of a pineapple look to it, and here it sits. It looks like it is potentially pineapple juice without any kind of pulp from the actual pineapples. That's just fine by me, and I like pineapple. As a result, I am anticipating liking this beverage. I wondered if I would be able to smell the starfruit over the rather boisterous nature of a pineapple, and I cannot. Instead, this smells like a fruity pineapple drink, and that's also okay by me. Even if I don't taste much starfruit whenever I actually start to drink this, the pineapple flavor should be good enough. I'm not even really sure why they decided they needed to combine the two.
Well, the first sip is not without starfruit. Clearly, pineapple is in charge, but the unique characteristics of starfruit are coming through to mute the overall potency of the pineapple. The sweetness is retarded quite a bit, and that starfruit peel taste is blinking into and out of existence very quickly. I'm still not sure the beverage is better for the addition of the starfruit. As the beverage gets warmer, it gets a lot worse, so I've added ice to it, as I got distracted by a dog.
Tip-in is dull pineapple that seems a bit off, as the sweetness is tempered by tartness. The middle is watery and refreshing with pineapple over the starfruit pretty solidly, but neither of them want to assert themselves. The finish is tinged by artificial sweetener aftertaste that clings on for the trail-off.
