Well let's get these things over with. I have two more of these to get through, and I didn't particularly like the first one. The problem is that this has zero grams of sugar, but it claims to be sweet. The result is that they need to use some kind of fake sugar and that inevitably results in a terrible aftertaste. That's what happened with the orange, and I had the highest hopes for the orange. The fact is, Sunny D is known for being a fake orange juice flavor in the first place. I'm not even sure why you would buy Sunny D over orange juice. I'm not sure what it brings to the table, or why I would want to drink it. The artificial sweetener was a poor choice for the previous one.
Once again, this doesn't pour like a regular seltzer. Instead, it is a lemonade that has been filtered for pulp and such, but it's still very, very hazy. Is there some benefit to the haze in this beverage that I'm not seeing? Either way, I am definitely going to be applying the hard soda label to these beverages. I think they have more in common with sugar-free hard sodas than they have with seltzers. It seems strange to me that calling the beverages "seltzer" would be beneficial in some marketing way over a hard soda. The aroma should be orange and strawberries, and it is. In fact, it smells really good. I just really feel like I'm going to be getting the pointy end of the artificial sweetener stick before this review is done.
Much like the last beverage, the first sip isn't terrible. Instead, it has more flavor than most seltzers have, and I would normally applaud this move, but this does have the aftertaste at the end. I would gladly sacrifice flavor at this point in favor of a reduction of aftertaste. There is a balancing act, and this has fallen way too far the wrong direction. I have found myself forgiving relatively flavorless seltzers based on the fact that they are supposed to be seltzer. I cannot forgive an overly-flavored seltzer for having a bad taste.
Tip-in is refreshing and filled with orange and strawberry just like it should be. The middle starts that creeping of artificial sweetener that overcomes the sweetness that is enhanced by the artificial nature of the sweetener. The finish is horrific with a nasty bite and subsequent trail off of whatever terrible ingredient they use to sweeten this.
