It hadn't occurred to me that the previous absinthe that I tried wasn't regular absinthe. Well, here comes the regular stuff. And by regular stuff, I mean that this is 55% ABV. That is a lot of ABV. That is almost an excessive amount of ABV. This one, unlike the other one, specifically calls out the use of wormwood. I was under the impression that they couldn't make alcohol out of wormwood anymore for some legal and or health reason. I guess that's not the case. Let's see how this works out.
The fluorescent green yellow color is indistinguishable from its stablemate, as is the licorice aroma. If you set these side by side, I don't know that I would be able to tell the difference between them. I guess that's why they made one bottle brown.
First sip is slightly more ferocious in the previous one. It has the same licorice mixed with herbs taste, and the alcohol burn has been turned up quite a bit. I distinctly remember the burn staying in my throat well after I was done drinking the small glass I had of the other absinthe, and this one is probably going to do even more temporary damage. I guess, ultimately, the question is if this is good. The fact is, it isn't terrible. It would be a good aperitif that would stand up to a cigar or pipe to cap off an evening. If you had had several beverages that were quite strong in flavor, this would still make an impression on your taste buds. For that, I think it succeeds.
