Isn't regular Baileys already kind of chocolate? I know it has vanilla, and it's really a product of the delicious Irish cream, but the Irish whiskey is what give it the punch to make it ... adult. I guess they decided to add more chocolate. This time, it's from Belgium, and those guys know chocolate and have the best yeast for beer, hands-down. Will the combo of Irish smoothness and Belgian sweetness result in a better beverage?
The pour is way, way darker than any other Baileys I recall having. It's still not as dark as that Mozart cream, but it's also not as viscous. I shook the bottle, as instructed, but there is still a strange pattern of nearly microscopic bits of chocolate floating on top of the beverage. I bet the bits are all through the beverage, but the nature of the thick cream doesn't allow me to validate that assumption. The aroma is sweet chocolate milk.
First sip is overwhelmingly chocolate. At first, I was going to describe it as being similar to a chocolate milk that had a bit too much Hershey's syrup added, but this is not the fake chocolate that Hershey's puts out these days. This is rich chocolate, but it is more bittersweet than a regular hunk of Belgian chocolate. It is still smooth as all get-out.
As sipping continues, the cloying that I would expect in such a sweet beverage starts to take its toll, but it's still really, really chocolatey. It might be too chocolatey for its own good. It's like sitting down with a big bag of chocolate and regretting your choice halfway through.
