These beers have been... not coincidentally 4.6%. It feels like it's manufactured to be an exact ABV like a seltzer or hard lemonade. This is beer, and beer should certainly have a recipe, and that recipe should result in a predictable ABV, but the idea that all of these beers have the exact same amount seems more artificial than other beers that might be siblings. Either way, I really enjoyed the tropical version of this beer, and I'm hoping that the berry follows suit.Based on the bold purple color of the can, I expected this beer to also be a similar bold color. To that end, I was disappointed. The color reminds me more of the blueberry lemonade I recently had where the color is influenced by the inside colors of the blueberry rather than the outside color of the skin. That should be fairly predictable, but anyone who is gotten blueberry-flavored something knows that it winds up being artificially colored very blue. Likewise, things that are berry tend to be artificially red. This is neither of those things, and maybe that's okay. The aroma does not hold back on the amount of berries that it has. It has blueberries and strawberries nestled in there pretty solidly, and I have no idea what the beer underneath might be (aside from assuming it's the same base as the previous two beers).
First sip is a dramatic letdown. The stalwart aroma of the berries really made me believe that I was going to be sinking my teeth into something that was simply berries with a beer backing, but this has carbonation and a disharmonious malt that covers up what the berries should be bringing. As a result, the berries can't do anything beyond a slight spritz while the rest of the beverage is... uninspiring. Maybe that's just the sip.
Tip-in is carbonation sizzling with a berry mist and what seems to be a cracker malt, but none of it is going well together. The middle sends fruity carbonation to the roof of the mouth while a dull watery beer unceremoniously sloshes down the gullet. The finish is a snap of more carbonation before the berry mist is all that's left in the trail off.
Bottom Line: Please be more epic.
