For a second, I thought I had already had this beer. Turns out, I had Truth. I went back and read the review that I made of that beer, and I liked it quite a bit. As a result, I imagine I'm going to like the hazy version of it just as well. Recently, though, I recall having a beer that was supposed to be effectively the same as the other Humongous beers that I really liked, and I did not like the derivation. Let's hope this hazy version improves on the original or at least matches it.
The beer pours out a straw yellow with the haziness that it implies in the name. It is a distinctly different color than the original Truth beer, as that one was copper colored. That one also had a lot more head than this one has. Tiny bits of white stuff floats around inside the beer in a somewhat pleasing way. The aroma is deliciously juicy with grapefruit, tangerines, and then there's a bit of a grainy malt.First sip is a little dry compared to the "Juicy" that is clearly written on the label. The actual beer itself tastes juicy, but the finish is dry enough to alter the overall flavor profile. I'm not sure if it's the yeast that they use, but all of these Rhinegeist beers have a very similar taste. It's like the style of an artist in its familiarity and fingerprint.
Tip-in is light carbonation tingle with grapefruit and tangerine abutting a grain malt (that is unlike the Truth beverage that had more of a bread malt). The middle is delightful with its even and composed intertwining of fruits with just enough carbonation to make it interesting. The finish is slightly dry, but the luscious middle was more than enough to keep it from turning unpleasant.
Bottom Line: An improvement on the original.
